MAMP does not support MySQL 8, yet.
So you cannot install Joomla 5 in MAMP.
Some people moved to WAMP, others to Xamp...
I switched over to Herd.
It was mentioned in a Joomla magazine article a while back.
You need 3 apps (2 if you go pro):
Herd: https://herd.laravel.com (PHP/Nginx)
DBngin: https://dbngin.com (Database)
(If you go Herd Pro, you don't need this)
TablePlus: https://tableplus.com (DB management, like phpMyAdmin)
